0-60 in 6.4 and 31mpg in a super fullsize. I'm impressed Audi.

I could never, ever justify buying that knowing I could have the 4.0 TFSI Twin Turbo V8 for only $5000 more. That engine is beautiful.
But if any car does need those specs, its the A8. I think the A8 is the best luxo-barge on the market today, and I'd buy one way before an E-Class, Panamera, or any Lexus ever built.

Now if only I had the funds to swap one of those TDI motors into my Miata...

Wow, and I thought the Gawker sites had too much wasted space. The article takes up, what, 20% of the page?

I think it depends on what you're going for. The 4.0 is sweet, but I just couldn't see buying a car like this with balls out speed being the point. The diesel if going be smoother, torquier, and overall a better fit for this car in the day-to-day.

I'm not completely sure that the reason that Audi and VW has been so successful with their TSFIs isn't because of their TDI work. If you look, a lot of the things that go into making modern gas engines successful is technology that TurboDiesels cut their teeth on in the early 2000s.
